Maturation has occurred in double charred oak casks, Pedro Ximenez sherry casks and experimental BBQ casks. Notes of smoked ham, grilled artichokes, flamed steak and cinnamon dusted expresso.

Fresh, floral, herbal and tart aromas. Flavourful with hints of mixed herbs and cedar wood. Very zesty and vibrant with hints of smoked orange and grapefruit. The taste profile reveals a lively, vibrant, sharp texture leading into very firm, distinctive flavours, malty - biscuit, aniseed and cardamon. The finish is long and lingering with firm notes of mint, tar, oak and leather.

Intense, pungent & aromatic, with a distinctive farmyard aroma, along with a crunchy aroma, like creosote or tarry rope. A splash of water opens the bouquet, with some dark chocolate cream, and a hint of smoked artichoke. On the palate, an initial burst of bittersweet flavours – coal dust, cardamon, peppermint, eucalyptus, and more dark chocolate with some coffee grits that are followed by old-fashioned boiled sweets, like aniseed twists, cinnamon balls, and antiseptic lozenges. Long finish.

On the nose, sweet, scented wood, wisps of pine resin, aniseed toffee, citrus and cayenne pepper. Flavourful with notes of smoked brown sugar, sugar coated walnuts and gentle spices.

This deep amber whisky offers aromas of stewed plums with balsamic glaze, red berries and cooked nectarines, sweet and oily. A hint of maraschino cherry liqueur, rich toffee and caramel, rose petals, cinnamon and a hint of scented wood and tannic rioja. On the palate: Corinth raisins, prunes, caramelised figs, sweet Muscat grapes, rich dark chocolate with Seville oranges flavoured butterscotch and sweet sherry character. The finish is long lasting, sweet and intense with fragrant orange notes, chestnuts and sultanas.

This 21 year old single malt is triple distilled and aged in second fill sherry casks. To the nose: ripe gooseberry, citrus peel, sweet vanilla, oak and fresh cut barley notes. Light chocolate, soft green fruit, dried citrus peel and a twist of old oak and honey greet the palate. Beautifully balanced whisky.

The 30 year old is a superb blend from Ballantine's. Complex balance of aromas and flavours include: honey, floral, pear, peach and vanilla oakiness.

To the eye a burished chestnut colour. On the nose, notes of Freesia, dried geranium and lilies merge with the aromas of citrus fruits, followed by the sweeter notes of acacia honey, apple pie, vanilla pods and cream. The complex palate iniatially starts dry with floral notes, like carnations then developing into sweeter notes of lemon merigue, grilled almonds and light crème caramel fudge with a hint of pepper, nutmeg, oak and light coconut. The finish is long with subtle floral notes and malty flavours.

Initial notes of lemon peel, poached peaches and vanilla giving way to indulgent tones of treacle, salted toffee, antique oak, roasted chestnuts and soft leather. Rich palate with hints of cocoa beans intermingled with sundried raisins, Muscovado sugar, red berries and an elegant layer of peat smoke. Long and sweet finish with lingering oak spices and sea salt.

Deep copper colour with aromas of heather honey, vanilla, cherries, lychees, floral, hint of eucalyptus, oak spices, liquorice and fresh tobacco leaves with a touch of aniseed and mint. On the palate: malty spice, notes of vanilla fudge, golden syrup, butterscotch, thyme, white pepper, woody notes of dry oak, hazelnut, demerara sugar and maple syrup and dates. The finish is sweet and woody with notes of liquorice sticks deliver a spicy mouth feel and a touch of peat smoke.

Aromas of sherry-soaked raisins, cocoa, orange marmalade, Christmas spices, cherry blossom, maraschino cherries and liquorice. On the palate warm pear, fruitcake, cocoa, and a sprinkling of sea salt.

Bright, gold colour. On the nose, the zest of sun - ripened fruits drizzled by the sea. On the palate, salted honeycomb with zingy spiced cocoa and the tang of blood orange.

With this edition of Black Art, inspiration was taken from the groundwork done in creating the first editions of this series, where there was a relentless pursuit to layer flavour.

Aged 29 years. Orange barley sugars, ginger nut biscuits and lemon meringue pie are followed by sweet apricot jam and marzipan. The toasted oak brings smooth chocolate and vanilla notes. Beautifully complemented with syrupy fruit, raisins, plum and melon. Over time, iodine and a hint of coconut come through, with a delicate oak spices of warming ginger and cinnamon. A velvet texture, the depth and balance of this single malt glides across the palate.

The balance of those sweet ripe stoned fruit flavours with the vanilla, caramel and brown sugar notes of the oak is perfect, this vintage of Islay barley is bottled at just the right moment to capture the DNA of our island and the whisky we distil on its shores. Add a touch of water and watch as the natural oils react in the glass releasing wonderful floral notes of hawthorn and heather.

This single malt is malted to a stratospheric 137.3 PPM and matured in the highest quality American oak casks. Initial aromas of sweet nutty smoke, barley sugar and ripe fruit lead way to syrupy apricot, ripe peat, malty vanilla, crème brulee, honey, tablet, coconut, almonds and charred oak. On the palate, dense smoked granola and honeyed lead to smoked apricot jam, barley four, peat embers, burnt heather, gooseberry citrus and sweet Turkish delight. Oak chips, sugared almonds and chocolate limes come toward the finish.

Bright citrus, smoke and a distinct minerality come through on the palate, followed by charred oak and beach bonfire embers. Toffee and creamy vanilla are balanced with the earthy smoke, with bright notes of pear, gooseberry fool and green apple simultaneously adding brightness and depth. Roasted coffee, hints of clove and nutmeg begin to come to the fore, with a gentle hint of heather honey.

The barley harvest for this 2013 vintage was raised on Islay by seven Islay farming partners. This single malt has matured in ex-American and ex-wine casks hailing from the Pessac-Léognan region of France. The first taste is a wondrous thing; all at once, the salinity, the fruit, the light peat smoke, and the sweet oak show their presence in a whirl of complexity to entice you. The aging from carefully selected oak allows a subtle almond note to combine with coconut, caramel, vanilla, and muscovado sugar. The peat smoke in this whisky is as beautifully balanced as ever, weaving through the components, highlighting them but not dominating. A dram that is gentle on the palate yet has a tremendous depth of flavour.

This Lowland Single Malt Whisky has a hint of fruit as the nose opens conjures an image of the apple orchard, soon joined by light touches of almond and vanilla, before lush meadow-grass aromas develop the floral theme. Smooth and pleasing in texture, the opulent and rounded taste starts lightly sweet and becomes elegantly drying, with a vibrant oaky spiciness that persists in the dry finish.

Tawny, auburn in colour. On the nose: sweet and peaty with medicinal notes of Manuka honey, hospital bandages, antiseptic lotion, strong cloves , and also grilled smoky bacon, a distinctive character of sweet leather, iodine and pine tar. This limited edition series celebrates the legacy of one man, the last of the Johnston family to own and manage the Laphroaig distillery, Ian Hunter. Aging for 30 years in Spanish Oak Oloroso Sherry cask developed aromas of dried dates and figs, cigar box, toffee, dark chocolate, pink peppercorns, all spice and some medicinal notes. Honey and sweet smoked stone fruit also unfurl on the palate. A very complex whisky.

The colour is deep gold. The nose is complex; smoky and herbal, with notes of Amsterdamer pipe tobacco, Eucalyptus, mint, fresh hay, a hint of jasmine but also autumn leaves and dry flowers along with sweet notes of vanilla, maple syrup, toffee, candy sugar, honey and black pepper. The palate; peaty and sweet, barbecued honey glazed gammon with sweet spicy marinade together with citric and fruity notes of lemon and lychee, a touch of iodine, cedar wood and earthy floral notes, bonbon and toffee sweetness. This 34-year-old Laphriaog Single Malt is the fourth in our exclusive series commemorating Ian Hunter. Maturation occured in American White Oak Bourbon barrels with finishing in first-fill European Oak Oloroso Sherry casks. This non-chill filtered whisky has notes of honey, black pepper, and of course peat.

Deep copper colour. Notes of light peat with iodine and burnt wood. On the palate floral green malt, sweet candyfloss, vanilla fudge, nimble fruit accents of blueberry and raspberry are followed by salted caramel, butterscotch, roasted chestnuts, peach, dried flowers and white pepper.

Lore is a complex marriage of both classical Laphroaig styles and many ages of Laphroaig. Deep Mahogany in colour, the nose is rich and smoky with seaside minerals with a hint of ash and bitter chocolate drops. The palate is richly peaty with a spicy chili bite with a short dry finish and a long sweet aftertaste.
