Join Chef Rob Thomas for our Saturdays with Chef Rob series. In the May 11 session Chef Rob will prepare Sweet Pea & Mint Soup with Parmesan Crisps, Chili Citrus Salmon, Spice-Rubbed Lamb Rack with Cilantro Gremolata, and Dark Chocolate Saybon. What a delicious way to spend a Saturday! Our knowledgeable Product Consultants will be on hand to demonstrate how to pair wine, beer and cocktails with these tasty dishes.

Early in life, it was clear that Rob Thomas’s calling was with the art of cuisine. Rob was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, but his inspiration comes from all over the world. At a young age he was introduced to unique, cultural food from other countries when his mother introduced him to Caribbean cuisine. The flavour, culture and liveliness of the food has continued to inspire him throughout his career.

At 21, after working as an Executive Chef for the Pan-Am Athlete’s Village, Rob’s first experience as a Red Seal Chef was with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. His work with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet provided the opportunity for Rob to work with dieticians and nutritionists in order to create healthy meals, a skill that would continually resurface in his career. His ability to design and implement unique flavour combinations served him well. Rob acted as a consultant for a full spectrum of food service operations, offering his expertise in menu and kitchen design.

Today, Rob Thomas has close to 20 years of experience and is an Award Winning Culinary Arts Executive Professional. He is an expert in global-inspired cuisine, known for mixing modern and traditional dishes. He actively works as a Personal Chef, offering private dining, cooking lessons and catering. His latest restaurant project is Modern Taco Company, the newest Mexican-style eatery in Winnipeg. Chef Rob implemented his extensive knowledge for Modern Taco Company to create a unique, flavourful and healthy menu that is affordable without compromising quality. Chef Rob is currently the chef for the MLCC and Breakfast Television Winnipeg.


Rob is always on the lookout for new adventures, a fever which is reflected clearly in his food. He has little boundaries when it comes to finding new tastes and cultures to incorporate into his menu designs. While Rob has travelled to South America, South Africa and parts of eastern and western Europe for ideas and inspiration, he recognizes valuable sources closer to home. Chef Rob values the connections that cooking forges between people from around the world, and takes advantage of learning about other cultures to introduce to people in Canada. While Rob is a globe trotter by natures, he prefers an intimate approach when cooking as a personal chef.
