Kosher
Manitoba Liquor Marts carry a selection of Kosher wines, listed below.
Kosher Wine refers to a wine made according to certain Jewish dietary laws (kashrut). The wine is pure, unadulterated, and covers the full range of styles. Each and every step of the wine’s production has to be made exclusively by Sabbath-observant Jews.
Kosher wine cannot be made with certain chemicals and additives. Fining agents cannot be derived from non-Kosher sources, such as isinglass (a non-kosher fish) and gelatine (a prohibited animal protein). Any winery outside Israel can produce Kosher wine provided that from the arrival at the winery, the grapes and resulting wine may only be handled by Sabbath-observing Jews, and only Kosher materials may be used in the production, maturation and bottling processes.
The term mevushal means flash pasteurized. Mevushal wines can be opened by anyone and still be Kosher.
