Blackened Whisky started as a collaboration between Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and Metallica, but when Dave passed away in 2018, Master Distiller Rob Dietrich joined the team in 2019 and now oversees the Blackened American Whiskey distilling process. Havana Club 3 Años is the result of blending aged and aromatic sugarcane aguardientes with extra light sugarcane distillates. This batch of rums is then allowed to rest in white oak barrels after which the Maestro Ronero chooses the best barrels and blends the final three-year-old rum, which is again set to rest, then filtered and bottled. This combination produces a dramatically different whiskey from what is now commonplace and expected in the single malt category. But just as traditional styles of single malt from Scotland emerged as a reflection of regions such as Islay and Speyside, so too does our American Oak stay true to the provenance of our Pacific Northwest home.
