This 21 year old single malt is triple distilled and aged in second fill sherry casks. To the nose: ripe gooseberry, citrus peel, sweet vanilla, oak and fresh cut barley notes. Light chocolate, soft green fruit, dried citrus peel and a twist of old oak and honey greet the palate. Beautifully balanced whisky.

Mezcal BRIJ3 was born through an effort to embrace the customs and traditions of Oaxaca, and the artisans of San Martín Tilcajete, known as "the place where the Alebrijes are born."Each bottle is hand painted by the regional artists of San Martín Tilcajete, with their own designs and colours, making each bottle unique to itself. Aromas of freshly cut grass, chlorophyll, citrus fruits such as lemon and lime, as well as smoked and toasted notes. On the palate it is youthful and strong with balanced acidity, offering a long finish with a pleasant balance of smoke and a fresh lingering herbaceous quality.

With this edition of Black Art, inspiration was taken from the groundwork done in creating the first editions of this series, where there was a relentless pursuit to layer flavour.

This single malt is malted to a stratospheric 137.3 PPM and matured in the highest quality American oak casks. Initial aromas of sweet nutty smoke, barley sugar and ripe fruit lead way to syrupy apricot, ripe peat, malty vanilla, crème brulee, honey, tablet, coconut, almonds and charred oak. On the palate, dense smoked granola and honeyed lead to smoked apricot jam, barley four, peat embers, burnt heather, gooseberry citrus and sweet Turkish delight. Oak chips, sugared almonds and chocolate limes come toward the finish.

Bright citrus, smoke and a distinct minerality come through on the palate, followed by charred oak and beach bonfire embers. Toffee and creamy vanilla are balanced with the earthy smoke, with bright notes of pear, gooseberry fool and green apple simultaneously adding brightness and depth. Roasted coffee, hints of clove and nutmeg begin to come to the fore, with a gentle hint of heather honey.

The barley harvest for this 2013 vintage was raised on Islay by seven Islay farming partners. This single malt has matured in ex-American and ex-wine casks hailing from the Pessac-Léognan region of France. The first taste is a wondrous thing; all at once, the salinity, the fruit, the light peat smoke, and the sweet oak show their presence in a whirl of complexity to entice you. The aging from carefully selected oak allows a subtle almond note to combine with coconut, caramel, vanilla, and muscovado sugar. The peat smoke in this whisky is as beautifully balanced as ever, weaving through the components, highlighting them but not dominating. This whisky is aged for 18 years in barrel, including 10 months in Brandy Casks. Very aromatic with notes of caramel, blueberry compote, raisins, dates and figs. On the palate caramel, corn syrup and blueberry compote; well grilled flapjacks, crispy bacon and butter syrup. The finish is rich and long, spicy and toasty.

The nose begins with lingonberries and waxy leaves, as well as sour cherries, violets, and rosebuds, followed by a more traditional line of rye spice, oak, and cinnamon. The palate is rich with vanilla upfront, with chocolate syrup, green oak, and the burnt corner pieces from a brownie tray. A short finish shifts to astringent oak, with spearmint, and baking spices heavy on the cloves.
