This expression was created from a mash that by law had to be no lower than 51% rye; following distillation it was aged in new charred oak barrels for 10 years. Old Forester 1870 Original Batch was the first expression in the Old Forester Whiskey row series. Barrels have been selected from 3 warehouses, with each barrel originating from a different day of production. These barrels are batched together to craft this expression. On the aroma, clove notes lead way to citrus fruits and honeysuckle. On the palate: baking spices (clove, cinnamon and nutmeg), citrus fruit mix with a shortbread sweetness. Long finish.

Created in 1870, Old Forester is the only bourbon continuously distilled and marketed by the founding family before, during and after Prohibition. In our pursuit of an authentically American single malt whiskey, we bring our signature five-malt barley bill together with new American oak casks. This combination produces a dramatically different whiskey from what is now commonplace and expected in the single malt category. But just as traditional styles of single malt from Scotland emerged as a reflection of regions such as Islay and Speyside, so too does our American Oak stay true to the provenance of our Pacific Northwest home.

Five sources of flavour have been customized for this craft bourbon. The first includes mineral rich iron-free water. The second ingredient is a unique grain recipe including corn, malted barley and rye which gives it its feisty spice character. The third is our unique cypress fermenters, the fourth is we distill in our customized copper pot stills, and lastly we mature in our own white oak barrels.
