Buttery pastries and brioche develop into aromas of toasted malts and sweet baking spices. The Palate is structured with a full body. Brioche quickly transitions into grassy notes. A slight woodiness balanced perfectly with vanilla and nutmeg. Refined and well-rounded. The finish is sophisticated and subtle. The soft spices and nutty malts balance beautifully leading to slightly sweet notes from the extra old cognac casks.

Heavy, thickly oaked and complex with smoke on the nose turns into warming, full blown peat and then followed by a sherry trifle note. The flavours develop into a really intense chocolate fudge that resonates through the palate.

Light and zesty with a hint of spice, warming up to what can only be described as 'stick to your teeth' toffee. A long and lingering finish leaving you ready for the next sip.

Full-bodied and bold, aromatic spices, fruit loaf and candied lemon are followed by a surge of vanilla, honey and caramel. The finish transforms from peppery and hot to deliciously sweet and smooth.

Fresh, floral, herbal and tart aromas. Flavourful with hints of mixed herbs and cedar wood. Very zesty and vibrant with hints of smoked orange and grapefruit. The taste profile reveals a lively, vibrant, sharp texture leading into very firm, distinctive flavours, malty - biscuit, aniseed and cardamon. The finish is long and lingering with firm notes of mint, tar, oak and leather.

On the nose, sweet, scented wood, wisps of pine resin, aniseed toffee, citrus and cayenne pepper. Flavourful with notes of smoked brown sugar, sugar coated walnuts and gentle spices.

Full-flavoured and rich with a deep mouth-coating texture, the taste is an intriguing balance between sweet, spicy and deep smoky flavours. Initially sweet as Christmas cake begins to soak into the tongue. A burst of winter spices sets off a smoky-spicy explosion countered by a sumptuous mid-palate of honey glazed smoked food and chewy treacle.

The 30 year old is a superb blend from Ballantine's. Complex balance of aromas and flavours include: honey, floral, pear, peach and vanilla oakiness.

Hints of custard cream, spice and zesty lime nose; while the palate is creamy with balanced fruits.

Initial notes of lemon peel, poached peaches and vanilla giving way to indulgent tones of treacle, salted toffee, antique oak, roasted chestnuts and soft leather. Deep copper colour with aromas of heather honey, vanilla, cherries, lychees, floral, hint of eucalyptus, oak spices, liquorice and fresh tobacco leaves with a touch of aniseed and mint. On the palate: malty spice, notes of vanilla fudge, golden syrup, butterscotch, thyme, white pepper, woody notes of dry oak, hazelnut, demerara sugar and maple syrup and dates. The finish is sweet and woody with notes of liquorice sticks deliver a spicy mouth feel and a touch of peat smoke.

Bright, gold colour. On the nose, the zest of sun - ripened fruits drizzled by the sea. On the palate, salted honeycomb with zingy spiced cocoa and the tang of blood orange.

With this edition of Black Art, inspiration was taken from the groundwork done in creating the first editions of this series, where there was a relentless pursuit to layer flavour.

The balance of those sweet ripe stoned fruit flavours with the vanilla, caramel and brown sugar notes of the oak is perfect, this vintage of Islay barley is bottled at just the right moment to capture the DNA of our island and the whisky we distil on its shores. Add a touch of water and watch as the natural oils react in the glass releasing wonderful floral notes of hawthorn and heather.

The barley harvest for this 2013 vintage was raised on Islay by seven Islay farming partners. This single malt has matured in ex-American and ex-wine casks hailing from the Pessac-Léognan region of France. The first taste is a wondrous thing; all at once, the salinity, the fruit, the light peat smoke, and the sweet oak show their presence in a whirl of complexity to entice you. The aging from carefully selected oak allows a subtle almond note to combine with coconut, caramel, vanilla, and muscovado sugar. The peat smoke in this whisky is as beautifully balanced as ever, weaving through the components, highlighting them but not dominating. A dram that is gentle on the palate yet has a tremendous depth of flavour.

This Islay whisky shows initial aromas of sweet pear drops, vanilla fudge, chocolate and marzipan, on the palate the oak and malt notes overlap each other with toasted rye bread, buttery popcorn, fresh oak, vanilla fudge and smooth caramel. The organic barley seems to give more fruit from the distillation and more viscous texture which is a joy to the olfactory senses.

Golden colour. Double distilled, aged in small oak casks, this Calvados offers an harmonious nose mixing baked apples, almond and spice hints. The mouth is supple, soft and well developed. Fruity at first, it evolves towards vanilla and woodier notes.

Comte de Grasse has created an entirely new style of vodka-rosé using an 'innovative' flavour extraction technique. A new process, called active wine extraction (AWX), combines the flavours of rosé wine with vodka. The nose is all elegant and concentrated freshness with light wafts of strawberries. The Selección de Familia has been aged in ex-bourbon and sherry casks. First creamy, then juicy plum set against a backdrop of coconut. Cooked oak spice and brandy ripple across the palate, chased down by rounded pepper and bold toffee sweetness. Smooth, with thick notes of demerara sugar. Well-rounded, long finish with a hint of pipe tobacco on the tail.

The Gunpowder Orange Citrus gin shows exotic layers of fresh citrus, oriental botanicals and gunpowder tea. Subtle hints of Moro orange citrus from California adds complexity and depth to this gin.

Baking spices, namely cinnamon, accompanied by bitter dark chocolate, exotic fruit sweetness, raisins and a hint of dark liquorice and orange peel on the finish.

Aged in 100% Oloroso sherry casks. Amber colour with gold highlights. Tempting aromas of marmalade, honey, fresh ground coffee, sherry and nuts. Full bodied, moderately sweet, with a touch of tobacco and mint on the palate.

Aromas of caramel and toffee popcorn, with notes of almond, vanilla, citrus and slight hint of peat smoke. Full and creamy on the palate, with sweet notes of barley sugar, candied orange peel, milk chocolate sitting alongside subtle salinity and sweet smoke. Finsih is long with fading caramel sweetness, citrus peel and smoke.

This Cuban rum blends smoky oak and spice. It is smooth on the palate, pleasant and aromatic, offering an exotic journey through a world of taste. Havana Club Seleccion de Maestros is distinguished by a warm amber hue and a deep red glow. On the nose, toasted pecan and spice showcase the wood ageing. On the palate, a round mouth feel leads to a complex, flavorful, full-bodied palate of cocoa, coffee, sweet tobacco and brown spices. A pleasant smoky oak and spice finish combined with candied fruits give the rum tasting experience a remarkable balance.

In a blend of mature eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne, Antique sets out to be different. Vinho is fully matured in used American oak wine barrels that have been toasted and re-charred in a way that brings out fruity vanilla notes from the wood into the whisky overlaid on a delicate background of complex fruitiness. It has a complex and multi-dimensional background of pepper, spice, dates and other fruits, such as ripe melon and mango together with kiwi and a delicate blend of bursting citrus fruits. A rich fusion of vanilla and caramelized sugars with dark chocolate on top. Pepper is also present in the background waiting to be noticed. This bouquet is simply a sensational feast to your olfactory organ.

Sanaig, named after an inlet on Islay’s rugged Atlantic cost, is a vatting of Kilchoman matured in both sherry and bourbon barrels. This sherry cask Scotch whisky is matured in a high proportion of oloroso barrels, imparting a balance of dried fruits, dark chocolate and rich peat smoke into the spirit.

This whisky is distilled from premium rice and is aged in white oak virgin casks. Aromas of sweet butter, caramel and spice lead way to flavours of sweet butter, toasted wood, licorice, clove and cinnamon with a long finish.

La Gritona Reposado has rested for 8 months in oak. the taste is herbaceous, with agave notes, and the finish is round with no burn.

For a quarter of a century, casks of this rare expression of Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky breathed the invigorating sea air of the Caithness coast. Aged firstly in American oak, its spicy sweetness was later granted depth and colour by casks of Spanish oak. Elegant and charismatic.
